Local art and artists on display at “Mill-ennial” exhibition

As Jessica Skwire Routher, the director of the Saco Museum, walked through the gallery space, she knew the latest exhibit, “Mill-ennial”, was complete and both she and the museum were ready to open the doors.

The 48 piece show displays the work of 20 artists from the Biddeford-Saco community and is on display at both the Saco Museum (371 Main St., Saco) and Engine (265 Main St., Biddeford) from April 6 to June 12.

An opening night reception was held simultaneously at both spaces on April 5, and according to Routhier, the displays highlight the work of a community and not an individual artist or city.

“We really wanted to include work from both sides of the river,” Routhier said. “People walking along Main Street in Biddeford can see the work at Engine or they can come here.”

Routhier hopes that the bi-annual event will prove to be popular and one that is anticipated by the community.

“It really is amazing to see the work from our community on display,” she said.
